    Panesar Seeking Success at Sussex

England spinner Monty Panesar has signed a three year deal with Sussex. Panesar has decided to leave Northants in a bid to re vitalise his career and gain his England place back.  The 27 year old has been at Wantage Road since signing as a 17 year old in 1999.

Explaining his decision to sign for Sussex, Panesar cited the influence of former room England room mate Mike Yardy.
"He was really keen to get me in at Sussex," said Panesar. “He also has a great enthusiasm for the club.

“I feel they are a very progressive club, and they have a reputation of having the family feel. I've seen people like Ed Joyce settle quickly, and that's another indication that it is a good team culture.”

Panesar and Northants have parted on good terms however the left arm spinner remarked, "The day has finally come to venture into pastures new. It's been a wonderful experience and I'll cherish all the memories of Northants Cricket." As recognition of the county’s contribution to his cricketing development, Panesar has donated £10 000 to the county.

Former England all rounder David Capel was in charge of Northants development programme when Panesar first joined the club and is now the county’s head coach.

He said: "This is a magnanimous gesture from Monty and it's well received by everyone here.
“It's pleasing that Monty has recognised the support and guidance he has received during the formative stages of his already distinguished career.

He is a much-loved person and cricketer and I feel sure he'll return to the England team. “
Following the departure of Panesar and fellow left arm spinner Graeme White, Capel has confirmed he is in the market for another spinner to bolster the squad over the close season.
