Kent’s former South Africa batsman Martin van Jaarsveld continued his prolific start to the season by making 182, his third century in successive games, to help set up Kent’s 204 runs win over Glamorgan at Canterbury.
Van Jaarsveld, who has signed a contract with Woodworm cricket bats, was voted the Professional Cricketers’ Association Player of the Year last season after he made 1,150 runs including four centuries.
His century against Glamorgan was van Jaarsveld’s 19th in the championship for Kent in five productive seasons and it helped Kent make 409 for five declared in their second innings.
Off-spinner James Tredwell then took eight for 66, the best figures by a Kent bowler in six years as Glamorgan crashed to 180 all out, losing their seven wickets for 41 runs.
Tredwell finished with match figures of eleven for 120 in Kent second successive win.
Van Jaarsveld, 34, played nine Tests for South Africa between 2002 and 2005. He was Northamptonshire’s overseas player in 2004 but joined Kent as a Kolpak registration in 2005.
He suffered a dislocated shoulder playing for the Titans franchise team in South Africa only three months ago but he made a quicker-than-expected recovery and was able to rejoin Kent for the start of the new season.
