Scotland’s Final Hope to Reach ICC World Twenty20
If Scotland is to stand a chance of reaching the ICC World Twenty20 after their defeat by Afghanistan, they need to beat Ireland by a convincing score.
It would have been all over for the Scots after their defeat by USA if it had not been for Ireland defeating USA by 78 runs to get Scotland in the Race. Scotland were also defeated by Afghanistan on a 14 run loss and need to really pull out all the stops against Ireland if they want to be in the ICC World Twenty20.
Scotland’s fate all hangs in the balance, the team must defeat Ireland, and they have to hope that Afghanistan beat USA. This scenario would leave the Afghans on top with the other three teams all vying for second place position.
The Scots started off well against the Afghans, with Gordon Drummond managing to take two wickets in the second over. Afghanistan managed to recover though with Noor Ali managing to hit a 41 before being taken out by Kyle Coetzer.
Drummond and Simon fell in the penultimate over, which means that Afghanistan was able to seal their place in the next round of the ICC World Twenty20.
