Rain Drowns out West Indies Hopes
The bad weather in Sydney ruined chances of West Indies gaining their foothold in the one day series.
The West Indies team manage to bowl Australia out for 225 and only got one over in reply, all this was before persistent rain prevented a result.
The West Indies needs to pull out all of the stops in order to win their remaining two matched in order to draw the series. This comes after they suffered to defeats in their first two matches.
Top Scorer for Australia was Michael Clarke, whilst Ryan Harris’s 21 from nine balls ensured that Australia managed to reach a respectable total.
The players eventually had to leave the pitch at 7.14pm local time and returned two hours later before the match was completely abandoned at 9.28, where by that time the majority of the crowd had already left.
The West Indies had included Wavell Hinds and Darren Sammy in their line up, and Australia managed to lose Shaun Marsh to a back injury in the warm up to the match.
West Indies Skipper Gayle managed to win the toss, deciding to let Australia bat first, an excellent decision when it came that Tim Paine was bowled out after 16.
Cameron White was the next man to go after only 17, after the brief rain interlude though, Michael Hussey and James Hopes pushed Australia to 200.
